Vietnamese investor receives backlash


THE US$72 billion pledged investment by some Vietnamese investor to acquire six million hectares of land has received a backlash from Harry Kalaba, the Citizens First (CF) leader and several Zambians, who have in unison described the deal as a scandalous scam meant to mortgage the country.

Despite the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) having denied that it had offered six million hectares to Viet-Zam, a Vietnamese company, various stakeholders have continued voicing out on the investment deal. Mr Kalaba has charged that the UPND administration should immediately drop what he termed as the infamous US$72 Vietnamese investment talk because it was nothing but a scandalous attempt to mortgage the country. 

In the said proposed deal, Zambia was likely to lose six million hectares of land in three of the country’s provinces, including Luapula, Muchinga and Northern CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
