CHURCHES have raised an array of governance concerns against the UPND government, among which are the ever-shrinking democratic space, police brutality, the abduction and cruel torture of Emmanuel Jay Banda by high-ranking government officials, tribalism, legal lawlessness and the expulsion of nine Patriotic Front (PF) Legislators by Speaker of the National Assembly.

The Catholic Church and the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) have both expressed deep concern with the manner the UPND is governing the country and have called on the leadership to stop harassing and intimidating the clergy over their preachings.

The Catholic Church through its Caritas (Internal Human Development) Commission has chastised the UPND government for its gross violation of the rule of law, human rights, shrinking democratic space, the growing trend of police brutality, arbitrary arrests of citizens, the harassment and intimidation of the Catholic Priests and selecting application of the law on hate speech offences.
