Court freezes expulsion of 9 PF MPs

By GRACE CHAILE

THE nine Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament whose seats were last week declared vacant by Speaker of the National Assembly yesterday returned to Parliament after the High Court froze the action of Moses Moyo by way of a court order.

Yesterday, the nine PF law makers were granted leave by the High Court to commence judicial review proceedings against the decision of the deputy Speaker to declare their seats vacant, thereby triggering by-elections.

The Lusaka High Court has also halted the decision of the deputy Speaker pending determination of the case.

“The applicants are hereby granted leave to apply for judicial review forthwith. The decision dated 3rd July 2024, made by the second speaker of the National Assembly declaring the nine parliamentary seats vacant, is hereby stayed pending the determination of these proceedings.”
