Catholic Bishops rebuked over silence on human rights abuses

THE Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has been challenged to abandon their partisan and tribal differences and hear their call of promoting social justice by condemning an array of governance issues, including the gross human rights violations being perpetrated by the Hakainde Hichilema administration.
Given Mutinta, a Catholic devotee has expressed deep concern that since 2022, the ZCCB has failed to issue their traditional Pastoral Letter to chastise the UPND government over shrinking democracy, human rights abuses and the continued arrests and detention of citizens on trumped up charges.
Mr Mutinta says since January 2022, about 32 cases of arbitrary arrests and incarceration on allegations ranging from illegal assembly to espionage, hate speech, and seditious actions have been documented and yet the ZCCB had elected to remain silent in the face of CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
