DESPICABLE: Chongwe woman, 27 murdered after gang-rape

A 27-YEAR-OLD woman of Kalulu village in Chongwe has allegedly been murdered after being gang-raped in the central business district
Ms Esnart Mumba, a neighbour of the victim described the incident as tragic.
She said in an interview that the victim left home on the evening of December 2 and did not return by the following morning.
Ms Mumba said the victim’s 14-year-old sister alerted the neighbors who started looking for her and later discovered that police had picked up an injured woman in the CBD.
She said the neighbours decided to check at Chongwe hospital where they were told that the victim was seriously injured and had been transferred to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital in Lusaka.
Ms Mumba said that a neighbour who went to Levy Mawanawasa Hospital on December 4 found that she had passed away.
She lamented that the deceased who was originally from Luangwa left behind a six-year -old daughter.
Police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga who confirmed the development identified the victim as Maureen Daka, 27.
He said that police found her unconscious in a pool of blood on the morning of December 3 around 10:00 hours.
He said that the victim had deep cuts in the head. Police rushed her to Chongwe Hospital where she was later referred to Levy Mwanawasa where she later died.
Mr Hamoonga said the victim’s elder sister Ms Lenia Daka, reported to police that Maureen died on December 4 while receiving treatment.
He said that police were investigating the matter and suspect that she was raped and later murdered.
