It is painful that we failed to qualify for the semifinals of the CAF Confederation cup tournament because we fought hard and really wanted to reach the semis, Zesco United defender Owino Odhiamboh has said.

Zesco failed to progress to the semifinals after South African giants SuperSport United came from behind twice and forced 2-2 draw at in Ndola to cruise to the semi-finals on away goal rule after the first leg ended goalless in South Africa.

Speaking in a post-match interview Owino said lack of focus from the players cost Zesco a position in the semifinal stage.

Owino reaffirmed Zesco’s commitment to work hard in the MTN/FAZ Super division so that the team could represent Zambia in next year’s CAF competitions.

“The game was fine. We gave it our best but things didn’t go the way we planned. Lack of concentration cost us the game by allowing Super Sport to come from behind twice,

“We will collect our self and focus on doing better in the league so that we can come back stronger next season,” said Owino.

Meanwhile SuperSport United head coach Erick Tinkler hailed his boys for putting up a spirited fight against Zesco

Tinker also commended Zesco for giving the South African side tough competition in their quest to qualify to the next round.

“We are delighted to have qualified to the next round. We knew we could do it and the boys worked hard. Credit goes to Zesco for playing good football. They are an experienced side in this competition,

“We showed great character and we moved through to the next round. We have enough quality players to reach the finals. We just have to continue working hard and playing good football, we can reach the finals,”  said Tinkler.
