KATAMBO DEFAMATION CASE RESTORED TO ACTIVE CAUSE LIST

By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

THE Lusaka High Court has restored to the active cause list a matter where former Minister of Agriculture Michael Katambo sued a past councillor for issuing libelous statements that he amassed his wealth through corruption.

Last month, Judge Pixie Yangailo struck off the defamation case from the active cause list with liberty to restore within 30 days from the date of the order against Mr Delight Mutale because of Mr Katambo’s failure to further prosecute the matter. “Upon hearing counsel for the plaintiff and upon reading the affidavit of one Benjamin Chanda Mutale filed herein, it is here by order the matter be and is hereby restored to active cause list,” the order reads.

“It is further ordered that the matter shall come up for hear[1]ing of an application for joinder of a party on 15th September ,” she ordered. In this matter, Mr Katambo, who is also former Masaiti Member of Parliament in a statement of claim filed in 2019 said that Mr Mutale, a former councillor in his then constituency alleged that he (Mr Katambo) was the worst corrupt minister in President Edgar Lungu’s Cabinet. He also accused Mr Katambo of stealing tax payers’ money and abandoning his family.
