MMA fighters’ game for 13 bouts showdown

THE Mixed Martial Arts Zambia (MMAZ) says it is ready to host an intriguing 13-bout international Zambia National Amateur League scheduled to feature international fighters at Scream Disco in Lusaka.

MMAZ president Benjamin Bush said tonight’s event promises sparks as unbeaten Zimbabwean indomitable force, Lewis Mataya will face off with Nigerian Godwin Friday in the main event.

Bush urged fans to troop in numbers to witness the captivating battles which have attracted 10 foreign fighters from Zimbabwe, South Africa and the DRC.

Meanwhile, Friday, who is representing Nigeria and Zambia has promised to give Mataya stiff competition.

For Mataya, tonight’s clash is deemed as a perfect opportunity on his journey to turning professional with only two fights needed for him to land an international title fight.

In the other bouts, Bantamweight Cedrick Kalenga from DRC will face Tryford Mwanga while Elisha Lukungu will take on Japhet Lumpungu from the DRC.

Ulemu Fight Club fighter Miracles Chipito will face off with Banze Noella, the DRC female fighter who is launching her MMA Career with her first fight tonight.

Killian Lungu of Warriors Fighting Club will face off with unbeaten lightweight fighter Jeremie Likobele from the DRC while South Africa’s Iviwe Mpthathiswaw, with a record of four wins and three defeats will face Portus Chama of Ulemu Fight Club in another lightweight bout. DRC’s featherweight Jacques Mbuyi will lock horns with Zambia’s rising star in Zayn DeJohn of Ulemu Fight Club while Joel Smit, the flyweight representing South Africa will take on Daniel Mumba. Bantamweight Michael Deon Zulu will clash with Jarcel Chimbwe of Ulemu Fight Club while Aris Kitenge from the DRC will fight Chomba Mwadila, the bantamweight representing Ulemu Fight Club.

Zimbabwe’s Kudakwashe Mutanga will engage in his first MMA fight tonight when he takes on Zambia’s Chipego Simukwa who has a record of two wins and two defeats in four fights. Lightweights Philimon Banda and Evaristo Mutale will lock horns with Prince Tafuna and Batista Mende respectively in what are deemed as local derbies for the four fighters.
