Investigations should be within confines of the law – Kambwili

By ADRIAN MWANZA

THERE is nothing sinister with investigative wings like the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and the Financial Intelligence Commission (FIC) to investigate senior PF members of the PF as long as they do  it in the confines of the law, Chishimba Kambwili has said.

Mr Kambwili in an interview said that he did not have any qualms with the current investigations as long as they did not abrogate any human rights.

He was reacting to the summoning of acting PF president Given Lubinda and his daughter Namakau by the ACC.

Mr Kambwili said the ACC was just doing its job and that they should just remain professional and not victimize people because they were deemed to be political opponents of the ruling party.

“For me I don’t have any problems with the investigations as long as they do not victimize people by detaining them and not following the right procedure,” Mr Kambwili said.

He urged Mr Lubinda not to be intimidated and remain resolute during this time and that he would offer him moral support during this time.

Mr Kambwili said he would give Mr Lubinda moral support and would personally support him.

Meanwhile NDC leader Saboi Imboela said that it was evident that the fight against corruption was targeted at former PF ministers.

Ms Imboela said it had now become common knowledge that the fight had become a witch hunt meant to dent the PF.

She said that there were a number of corrupt individuals in the country some of whom were not even affiliated to the PF, but were not  being followed.

“It’s clear this crusade is aimed at finishing the PF but this should not be accepted by any well-meaning Zambian,” she said.

Ms Imboela said there was need to drift away from politics of retribution by allowing the investigative wings to do their job without a push from the powers that be.
