MWANDI Member of Parliament Sililo Mutaba has bemoaned the poor state of the Livingstone-Sesheke Road.

According to Mr. Mutaba, it was a miracle or by the grace of God that a patient referred to Livingstone Central Hospital from Sesheke, Mulobezi or Mwandi reached the tourist capital alive after using the pot-holed road.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Nation in Livingstone, Mr. Mutaba said that the state of the road especially between Simungoma and Kazungula was a threat to motorists.

“The road is in a bad state especially between Simungoma and Kazungula. In 2011, I used to spend an hour to drive from Mwandi to Livingstone but now I am spending three hours. I am from using that road, it is bad,

“I can imagine how it will be next year if it is not worked on. It is with the help of an unknown hand, a miracle and by the grace of God that patients who are referred to Livingstone Central Hospital from Sesheke, Mulobezi or Mwandi reach the hospital alive after using such a road,” he said.

MPs from Mulobezi, Sesheke and Katombola had engaged Infrastructure and Development Minister Ronald Chitotela on the issue

“Actually we raised that issue in Parliament and we were assured by the minister that despite it not being in the 2017 budget, it will be included in the 2018 budget,

“The minister told us that a contractor has already been identified and the total cost for the project is about K900 million,” he said.

The Livingstone-Sesheke road is one of busiest roads as it connects Zambia and Namibia leading up to the Atlantic Ocean.
