THE Patriotic Front (PF) has commended the Lusaka City Fire department for its timely response to put out the inferno which engulfed and burnt down 120 shops in Kamwala trading area.

Party media director Sunday Chanda said the ruling party was indebted to the service rendered by the firefighters in quenching the fire after unknown people allegedly torched the facility on Sunday evening.

“The PF would like to commend the Lusaka City Council fire department for their sincere efforts in mitigating the fire caused by unknown people in Lusaka’s Kamwala Trading area. The party acknowledges that the role that small private enterprise initiatives such as those trading at Kamwala’s Lubarma market has on the growth of the Zambian economy.

“Small businesses are the route through which Zambia will ultimately prosper and a reliable source through which various families are able to put food on the table and send children to school. Our hearts and prayers go towards the business people and the families which have been affected by this uncalled-for tragedy,” Mr. Chanda said.

He urged Zambians across the country to remain vigilant so as to curb such activities being factored by what he termed as “a few bitter and selfish Zambians” whose dream to rule was a fallacy adding that time had come for people to mature.
