Chilanga Cement raises over K1m for charity

CHILANGA Cement Plc has raised more than K1 million in cash and in-kind contributions to support three community initiatives through its 2026 Charity Golf Day.

The funds will benefit Mother of Mercy Hospice in Chilanga, Mitanda Home for the Aged in Ndola and the Chilanga Golf Academy.

The Charity Golf Day, held at Chilanga Golf Club, brought together business leaders, corporate partners, government representatives, golfers and other stakeholders to support community development and youth sports.

Speaking at the event, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe commended Chilanga Cement for its continued support towards charitable causes and the development of young golfers through the Chilanga Golf Academy.

Chileshe said the initiative was important as it supported Government’s efforts to create opportunities for young people through sport and public-private partnerships.

“As you are all aware, this year’s Charity Golf Day aims to raise funds to support important community initiatives, particularly the Mother of Mercy Hospice in Chilanga, Mitanda Home for the Aged in Ndola, and the Chilanga Golf Academy,” he said.

He said the Chilanga Golf Academy was aligned with the objectives of the National Youth Policy, which seeks to engage young people and stakeholders in meaningful partnerships for the implementation of youth development programmes.

“We believe that this is the right direction if we are to identify and nurture the sporting talent that exists among our young people and position Zambia to compete more effectively at national, regional and international levels,” Chileshe said.

Chilanga Cement Board Chairman Muna Hantuba said corporate social responsibility remained an important part of the company’s operations under Huaxin Building Materials Group.

Hantuba said the company would continue supporting communities in areas where it operates and ensure that its social investments created meaningful and sustainable impact.

Hantuba said Chilanga Golf Club remained an important legacy site under the Huaxin Group and that the company would continue supporting the club and its operations in a sustainable and responsible manner.

Meanwhile, Chilanga Cement Chief Executive Officer Sheng Jianhua said Huaxin Building Materials Group believed that “a better world begins with us.”

Sheng said maintaining and investing in legacy structures such as the Chilanga Golf Club formed part of the company’s broader social investment and sustainability commitment.

Sheng announced that the 2026 Charity Golf Day had raised more than K1 million in cash and in-kind contributions for the three beneficiaries.
