Hot FM Boss sues chela Tukuta

Mr Chavula and HOT FM Limited have sued Mr Tukuta in the High Court, alleging that on August 28, 2026, he published a post on his Facebook page, “Chellah Tukuta Studios,” which referred to radio stations in Rwanda and allegedly compared their conduct to that of Mr Chavula. The statement complained of reads: “Radio stations in Rwanda promoted the genocide just like Chavula promoted terrorists in Zambia. Zambia is loved by God and there is no room for TERRORISM.” According to the statement of claim, the publication was accompanied by a photograph of Mr Chavula and attracted at least 465 reactions and four shares, besides comments and replies. Mr Chavula claims the publication was understood to mean that he had promoted, supported, facilitated or provided a platform for terrorists or terrorism in Zambia. He claims that because of his publicly known association with HOT FM, the publication was also understood to accuse the radio station of promoting or facilitating terrorism and compared it to radio stations allegedly involved in promoting the genocide in Rwanda. The plaintiffs have described the allegations as false and say Mr Tukuta had no lawful or factual basis for making them. Mr Chavula argues that the publication has injured his character and reputation, caused distress and embarrassment and damaged his personal and professional standing. HOT FM, meanwhile, claims injury to its reputation, goodwill and commercial standing, including loss of confidence among listeners, advertisers, business partners and other stakeholders. They allege malice, citing the “exceptional gravity” of associating them with terrorism, the use of emphatic language, publication on a public social-media platform and Mr Tukuta’s alleged failure to retract the statements or apologise after receiving a demand letter dated August 31. They also claim Mr Tukuta made a further Facebook post indicating that he was “ready” for Mr Chavula, which they say aggravated the alleged injury. The plaintiffs are seeking general and aggravated damages, an injunction restraining Mr Tukuta from repeating the allegations, removal of the offending publication, a public retraction and apology, interest and costs. ////////////////////
