Kafwaya was buried without rituals – family

By BARNABAS ZULU THE family of slain former Cabinet Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya, who was killed during a military raid at the residence of Brian Mundubile says no rituals were performed during his burial, insisting that those searching for his grave will not find anything they are looking for. Kafwaya’s brother, Mukupa Busuma Kafwaya says the family buried the former Lunte Member of Parliament normally and did not conceal the burial, questioning why armed men were allegedly searching for his grave. This follows an alarm raised by Chitimukulu, who said armed men travelling in six vehicles were looking for Kafwaya’s grave in the Lisunga Chiefdom in Lunte District. In a telephone interview, Mukupa said the family had not performed any rituals during the burial and wondered why anyone would want to locate the grave. “There was nothing which was done. We just buried our relative normally, just the way people bury. We didn’t do anything. We didn’t do any ritual. We didn’t do anything. We just buried,” Mukuka Kafwaya said. Mukupa said media personnel from Mano in Kasama witnessed the burial, which he maintained was conducted in the same manner as other burials. “We just buried normally, the way we bury everyone. I fail to think why they want to locate and find his grave…and what they want to do. What is the importance of looking at where they have buried someone?” Mukupa asked. He questioned the motive behind the reported search for the grave, saying the family had already laid its relative to rest. He added: “When people bury, it means that they have forgotten about death. And when you bury, you put someone to rest.” Mukupa also questioned what the armed men intended to achieve by locating the grave. “If they are armed, are they going again to fight the dead? And how can you shoot the dead with guns? Because the dead is dead,” he said. He said he was unaware of the details contained in Chitimukulu’s statement but confirmed that he had heard reports of people passing through the area. Mukupa said the information he had previously received about the presence of the people was unverified and that he had not received any further updates. He reiterated that the family had not hidden the burial and denied that any rituals had been performed. “We just buried my brother in a very normal way, just as normal as they bury everybody. And we did not hide the burial. We just did that,” he said.
