Two in dock over suspected gassers’ murder

TWO men and a woman have appeared before the Choma Magistrates Court for allegedly killing a suspected gasser in cold blood.
Jones Hangambwe, 22 a farmer, Alastar Mweele, 34, a carpenter and Rachael Lyambai, 30, all residents of Choma’s Mapanza area are jointly charged with murder contrary to section 200 of Chapter 87 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that the three with others unknown murdered Eustace Nakauma.
The alleged incident is said to have happened on February 21 2020 in Mapanza area of Choma rural when an irate mob ran amok and vandalised Dundwa police Post on allegations that Police officers were keeping a suspected gasser in their custody.
When the three appeared for explanation of the charge yesterday before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri they all understood the charge read against them.
The matter was adjourned to April 9 2020 for mention and possible committal to the High Court.
The three were remanded in custody as the offence was non-bailable.
