FIRST republican President Kenneth Kaunda’s gallant fight for Zambia’s liberation is a milestone that will always be cherished, President Edgar Lungu has said.
President Lungu said he admired Dr Kaunda’s fight for freedom and independence of other African countries.
He said this in his congratulatory letter to Dr Kaunda on his 96th birthday which falls today.
President Lungu said the story of Africa cannot be told without the mention of Dr Kaunda’s name.
“April 28 always brings to me fond memories of you as President of Zambia, a title that 24 years after you left office, I assumed in 2015,” he said.
President Lungu said Dr Kaunda’s achievements were too numerous to itemize.
He said without Dr Kaunda’s passion to have all young people educated, Zambia would not have been what it was today.
“This is why I pray for your health so that even in your advanced age, God can wipe away any health threats to you,” he said.
President Lungu wished Dr Kaunda a happy birthday.
