ZAMBIA remains in a surge phase as it records 450 Covid-19 cases out of the 2, 542 tests done in the last 24 hours.
This is the 2nd highest number of cases that the country has recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The country has also recorded two deaths and 380 recoveries.
Among the 450, 11 are health workers from Lusaka and Copperbelt, a truck driver in Mazabuka and one person at the point of entry at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport. Giving an update in Lusaka yesterday, Permanent Secretary for Technical Services in the Ministry of Health Kennedy Malama said that the country was indebted to health workers for continuing with the fight despite being affected.
“We are happy that health workers have remained focused as frontliners and have not shown any reluctance up to this point,” he said.
Dr Malama expressed the need for citizens to change the way of doing things if the virus was to be defeated.
He said it was disappointing to note that people in public places had stopped adhering to the health guidelines given. Dr Malama also called on teachers and guardians to ensure that pupils follow the health guidelines properly.
