Nakacinda, MMD faction disown Mutati
By SIMON MUNTEMBA
FELIX Mutati is on his own and we have nothing to do with his intention to form a political party or make an alliance with Harry Kalaba and Kelvin Bwalya, MMD faction national secretary, Raphael Nakacinda has said.
Mr Nakacinda cautioned MMD members working with Mr Mutati to desist from using the party’s name and that of former republican President, Rupiah Banda for selfish political agenda.
Media reports in recent times, have been reporting on a possible pact or formation of a new party by a combination of Felix Mutati, Harry Kalaba and Kelvin Bwalya Fube.
But Mr Nakacinda, who was flanked by the only three MMD Members of Parliament namely, Howard Kunda, Maxwell Kabanda and Peter Phiri said the party had nothing to do with Mr Mutati’s maneuvers.
He said the party had received numerous calls from members and the media on Mr Mutati’s political moves but would want to distance themselves from his plans.
“We want to clearly put it on record that MMD and its members have nothing to do with Mr Felix Mutati’s quest to form or to buy a political party.“Those working with Mr. Felix Mutati whose names we are going to withhold for today, must stop dragging the name of former President Rupiah Banda into their cheap propaganda antics and political agenda,”Mr Nakachinda said.
We therefore, he said, want to caution all our members to desist from engaging in activities which are not sanctioned by Operation Save MMD leadership. He explained that he together with MMD MPs formed a committee called Operation Save MMD leadership to save the party from collapse.
“This operation here is not meant to advance any one individual’s agenda but a collective effort to rescue the party’s fortunes in order for it to continue playing its role in the democratic dispensation of our country,” he said.
Efforts to get Mr Mutati proved futile by press time.
Meanwhile, the Nevers Mumba led administration has however distance itself from Mr Nakacinda and described his continued reference and use of the MMD name, as criminal.
MMD spokesperson Caphas Mukuka said Mr Nakacinda was an expelled member who had no legal right to talk a urther also accused Mr Nakachinda of being a hired gun sent to destroy the MMD.
He also said the continued statements by Mr Nakacinda against Dr Mumba was tatamount to contempt of court which ruled in favour of him.
