NRCs issuance on course, says Kampyongo

ABOUT 331, 472 Zambians have acquired National Registration Cards in the ongoing mobile exercise in five provinces under phase one, Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has said.

At media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Kampyongo, said out of the five provinces under phase one, Copperbelt, Luapula and Northern have recorded the highest number of registered persons so far.

Mr Kampyongo said that Copperbelt had registered 79,111 NRCs, followed by Northern which had registered 78, 370 while Luapula had 74, 989.

The minister said that Eastern Province registered 56, 768, while North-Western registered 42, 234.

Mr Kampyongo urged eligible persons living in the provinces that were in the first phase to take advantage of the exercise.

“The exercise is still ongoing even as we intensify preparations for phase two of the mobile registration exercise which kicks off on September 1, 2020 in Southern, Western, Central, Muchinga and Lusaka provinces,” Mr Kampyongo said.

Meanwhile, Mr Kampyongo said that there were immigration officers in the team conducting the mobile registration exercise to deal with people would want to take advantage of the exercise to get registered even when they were not eligible especially foreign elements.

He said the law does not allow any citizens to get NRCs using chiefdoms that were not gazetted.
