THE fall of Bill 10 should trigger President Edgar Lungu into undertaking an in-depth private assessment of the party because it is highly likely that he was betrayed, a Patriotic Front official Lemmy Bwalya has said.
And PF has written to its three Members of Parliament Elalio Musonda for Kamfinsa, Frank Ngambi for Chifubu and, Kabaso Kampampi, Mwansabombwe to exculpate themselves for the absent voting of Constitution Amendment Bill No.10.
Mr Bwalya however observed that top party officials were only telling the President “sweet stories” even when things were not good on the ground.
He said in an interview that officials who were spearheading the campaign for Bill 10 were pretending to be optimistic that the proposed law would go through even when they knew that it would flop.
Mr Bwalya said the President should be told exactly what was obtaining on the ground so that he could make tough decisions for the party.
He said the tendency of pretending that issues were in favour of the ruling party would cost the PF.
Mr Bwalya pointed out that when there was infighting among youths in Lusaka’s Mandevu constituency, some officials pretended as if everything was fine but were exposed by the court cases that emanated from the fracas.
“The failure of Bill 10 is a wakeup call. We were being told that the bill will go through and that the numbers were there when in fact not. This is betrayal of the highest order because if they said the truth, the President would have come up with another winning strategy,” he said.

Meanwhile, PF secretary general, Davies Mwila has asked the MPs to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against each one of them.
“It has come to my attention that during the voting for Bill No.10 on Thursday 29th October 2020, you decided to absent yourself from voting for the Bill.
“You are aware that His Excellency, the President had directed that all ourMPs vote for the Bill as it had progressive clauses that would have seen us uplift the lives of the underprivileged in society”, Mr Mwila wrote.
He stated that the action exhibited by the MPs was not in line with the Party’s interest and was in breach of the it’s Constitution.
