Oil exploration underway, says Veep

By SILUMESI MALUMO
OIL exploration in Gwembe has commenced to ascertain the extent of the deposits, Vice-President Inonge Wina has disclosed.

The Vice President said that oil explorations were taking place in Southern Province’s Gwembe as well as in Northern and Western provinces.
Ms Wina told Parliament yesterday during the Vice President’s question time that once the explorations were concluded the nation would be informed on the outcome.
“I wish to inform the house that the oil exploration is taking place in Gwembe in Southern Province, Northern and Western provinces.
“This time around we need to wait for the explorations to be concluded then the outcome will be made known,” she said.
She was responding to Gwembe Member of Parliament Attractor Chisangano who wanted to know whether oil exploration had started in Gwembe after the discovery of oil deposits.
Meanwhile, the Vice President said Government has paid all contractors working on rural roads.
She said that contractors who had been paid, but had abandoned the works must be taken to task so that they could get back on site.
She told MPs to always engage the government whenever they discovered that contractors had abandoned the projects.
“All the contractors have been paid their money, so my advice to Members of Parliament is to engage the Ministry of Local Government to know why the contractors are not on site because they need to be doing the works as they have been paid,” he said.
