By PETER SICHALI
DEMOCRATIC Republic of Congo Ambassador to Zambia Konji Maloba has confirmed the arrest of Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) New Hope president Nevers Mumba by the DRC intelligence known as ANR.

Ms Maloba said that Dr Mumba was arrested on Thursday in Kolwezi where he had gone.
She said Dr Mumba was being held by the special intelligence wing in Lubumbashi, adding that the matter was still being investigated.
Dr Mumba was arrested by heavily armed security officers after his planned meeting with former DRC President General Joseph Kabila to seek financial support ahead of 2021 general elections in Zambia flopped.
D r Mumba entered DRC on December 1, 2020 and was guest of Provincial Governor for Lualaba Richard Muyej Mangeze an ally to Gen. Kabila but was staying at Kolwezi Lodge where he was arrested by the by officers from Congolese Intelligence service who took him to Lubumbashi.
And Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Malanji said Government had not yet received any official communication from the Congolese authorities.
Mr Malanji said in an interview yesterday, Government has not received any communication on circumstances surrounding Dr Mumba’s arrest.
He said there was nothing that the Zambian Government could do at the moment apart from waiting for an official statement from DRC.
Dr Mumba was yesterday reported to have been transferred from Lubumbashi to Kinshasa.
Meanwhile, a video recording emerged in which Dr Mumba confirmed his arrest that but preferred to call it a movement restriction. Dr Mumba said he was kept safe in his hotel room in Lubumbashi by that country’s intelligence wing.
He said he was advised not to leave DRC until the security wings were done with investigations as to what he was doing during high political tension in that country.
