NEVERS Mumba owes the nation and the party an explanation to circumstances that led to his sneaking out of the country leading to his arrest by heavily armed security forces in treasonable cases in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
MMD NEC member Chishala Chilufya has challenged Dr Mumba to reveal what he was doing in the DRC for him to be arrested by heavily armed security officers who transferred him from Kolwezi to Lubumbashi.
“Our president, Nevers Mumba’s ordeal in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) needs more interrogation and it is embarrassing that he wants to blame government for his mischief, “ Mr Chilufya has said.
Mr Chilufya, who is MMD chairman for Agriculture, said the entire leadership was shocked to learn of his troubles in the DRC because they were not aware of the trip or what it was for and asked that government should ask him to explain.
He warned that matters of international security are sensitive and should be handled carefully so that the nation knows what the MMD leader was doing there.
Mr Chilufya told the Daily Nation that the party was ashamed of Dr Mumba’s manoeuvres which needed serious interrogations.
Firstly, he said, we want to thank both governments of Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia that nothing happened to Dr Mumba and for providing a safe passage for him back home seeing that the time he crossed the border was late and borders are closed by that time for security reasons.
“However, the ordeal has left us with more questions than answers. We have analysed the myriad of conflicting statements coming from himself and the people he works with like Reverend Reuben Sambo and Ms Elizabeth Chitika.
“And listening to him at every junction has left us more confused. In one breath he said he is free not arrested but under restriction. Let him tell the nation the truth,” Mr Chilufya said.
He added, “This is a very serious and sensitive matter that borders on national security and we cannot allow such a matter to be settled as a cheap street conversation.”
And in an interview with Mr Simon Mwewa on his Facebook, Dr Mumba revealed that he was picked up in Kolwezi by about 16 heavily armed security officers and driven to Lubumbashi, four hours away.
And in a telephone interview yesterday, Dr Mumba told the Daily Nation that he was free and would give more details at a press briefing today.
Mr Chilufya advised Dr Mumba to stop playing with the Zambian people and their safety for political mileage.
