GOVERNMENT should actualise the cultivation of marijuana without delay for the country to widen its revenue base, Christian Democratic Party President Danny Pule has said.

Dr Pule, who is also former deputy Minister of Finance, said it had been proven that the commodity was lucrative, hence the need to quickly actualise the cultivation and export.

He said Government should come up with the Statutory Instruments which would guide the cultivation.

Dr Pule said in an interview yesterday that the commodity was fetching an attractive price on the international market. “President Edgar Lungu clearly indicated that we need to diversify in order to earn enough revenue hence the need to actualise the cultivation of the commodity. People are eagerly waiting. Government announced on legalisation and people want this to be actualised.

“We need to do things as soon as possible so that we start exporting this commodity for us to get the foreign exchange which we have been talking about,” Dr Pule said.

He said that other countries which had started exporting the commodity were earning enough resources hence the need for Zambia to follow suit.
