THE country has started witnessing a reduction in the number of admissions of Covid-19 patients across the country, Health Minister Jonas Chanda has announced.

Dr Chanda however stressed that the number of those requiring oxygen in the health facilities was still high.  He was speaking during the Covid-19 update in Lusaka yesterday.

He called for continued compliance with the health guidelines if the pandemic was to be curtailed.

Dr Chanda warned that schools, colleges and universities that would be found breaching health guidelines would be closed without hesitation.

He reported that in the last 24 hours, 12 people died, bringing the cumulative number of Covid-19 related deaths to 881 while the country recorded 1, 037 new cases out of 6, 173 tests done bringing the number of cases to 64, 610 since the disease broke out in March last year.

A total of 1, 190 patients were discharged from both the health facilties and community management.

The active cases across the country stands at 5, 410 with 267 on oxygen therapy and 47 in a critical condition.
