THE Central Committee of the Patriotic Front (PF) has unanimously endorsed President Edgar Lungu as preferred candidate for the position of party President at the forthcoming general conference, PF Secretary General, Davis Mwila has said.

Mr Mwila however said the resolution to endorse President Lungu by the Central Committee does not stop anyone from contesting the position of Party president. “I am pleased to announce that the Central Committee of the PF has unanimously endorsed President Edgar Lungu as our preferred candidate for the position of party President at the forthcoming general conference,” Mr Mwila told journalists in Lusaka yesterday at a press briefing.

Mr Mwila also announced that those who are interested in contesting the position of party President at the general conference to be held on April 10 to 11 should submit their application letters to him from Wednesday April 7 to Thursday, April 8 from 08:00 hours. Equally, he said, those that want to contest the position of member of the central committee should submit their application letters to the President through the office of the Secretary General from Monday April 5 to Thursday April 8.

Mr Mwila said the nomination fees for Presidential candidates is K10, 000 and K2000 for candidates vying for positions of member of the central committee. He also stated that the conference shall be held virtually with strict adherence to the COVID-19 health guidelines as prescribed by the ministry of Health. Mr Mwila further called on the PF members in particular and all voters in general to take the extension days of the voter verification by the Electoral Commission of Zambia seriously and ensure that they verify their details.
