MINING companies, contractors and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) should comply with the 50 percent requirement for Zambian citizens, Petroleum Transporters Association of Zambia (PTAZ) spokesperson Benson Tembo has said.
He said the companies must adhere to the provisions of Statutory Instrument number 50 of 2020 that reserves domestic haulage to Zambians.
Mr Tembo said he was aware that some mines had engaged foreign transporters.
“We are aware that mines have engaged foreign transporters, we are equally aware that suppliers of fuel and OMCs are using foreigners,” Mr Tembo said.
He said some OMCs had even signed local transportation business with companies which have 100 percent foreign shareholding.
He said the all players must comply with the SI. Mr Tembo said the PTAZ would not sit idle and watch such impunity being exhibited by OMCs and suppliers to continue.
“As citizens in the transport sector in Zambia, we are grateful to the President and we wish to commend Mr Mutotwe Kafwaya, the Minister of Transport and Communication for his personal effort to see to it that this Statutory Instrument was promulgated,” Mr Tembo said.
