CHITIMUKULU NODS PROF LUO’S APPOINTMENT

PARAMOUNT Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people says he is pleased with the choice of President Edgar Lungu’s running mate ahead of the August 12 general elections .

The Paramount Chief said Professor Nkandu Luo has been in politics for a long time and has now matured politically.

He explained that the position suits her because of her vast political experience.

Speaking when Vice President Inonge Wina and Prof. Luo paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Mungwi District, Paramount Chief Chitimukulu said the traditional leadership has welcomed the President’s decision and has since pledged his support and that of the Royal Establishment to President Lungu and his running mate.

And the Mwinelubemba has reiterated his call for stakeholders to join efforts in addressing voter apathy ahead of elections.

He said it was regrettable that the Northern region recorded low voter turnout in 2016 General Elections, a situation he said needs to be changed in this year’s polls.

He also called for peaceful campaigns by all political players saying tolerance and co-existence should be upheld.

The Mwinelubemba has further hailed Mrs. WINA for her contribution to the country’s development and democracy during her service to the nation.

And Ms Wina commended Chief Chitimukulu for coming up with the initiative of a movement to fight voter apathy.

She said it is through such initiative that will help increase the number of people turning out to vote in this year’s general elections.

The Vice President informed the Mwinelubemba that her office is working with the Provincial Administration to promote continental trade through the border points in the region.-ZANIS
