DISRESPECTFUL UPND ANGERS CHIEF CHIKANTA

By MULENGA MUSONDA

CHIEF Chikanta has described as disrespectful the decision by UPND parliamentary candidate for Dundumwezi, Edgar Singombe, to shun a meeting he had called for all candidates participating in the August 12 elections in Kalomo.

Chief Chikanta of the Tonga people said if Mr Singombe does not respect him, he should at least respect the throne.

The chief was speaking in Dundumwezi during the meeting meant for candidates to introduce themselves to the electorate before they could move into full campaigns.

“Politicians will come and go but chiefs will always be there, when a chief summons you to speak to the people show up!

“Next time Singombe is summoned tell him he should come, even if he does not respect me, he should give respect to the throne,” the chief said.

Chief Chikanta said he was tired of doing duties of a Member of Parliament as he appealed to the electorate not to vote on party lines but for individuals who were development-oriented.

“Now I am even tired of carrying out duties that are supposed to be done by an MP, you the electorate have eyes and should vote for individuals who foster development and not on party lines,” he said.

The meeting was attended by parliamentary candidates from the Patriotic Front, Pafic Munachonga, Kenmax Hamoonga of the Socialist Party, Micheelo Haluyasa and Michael Mazakaza both independent candidates.

Efforts to get Mr Singombe proved futile as his mobile phone went unanswered.
