ANY alliance formed for the purpose of regime change rather than public policy aspiration will be disastrous to the peace and harmony of the country, says Zambia DNA spokesperson, Spuki Mulemwa.

He said in an interview that such alliance will not have the best interests of the country and therefore lead to instability.

“Any Political Alliance formed for the sole purpose of take power will do a great disservice to the interests of the country,” he said.

Mr Mulemwa said the OCIDA schemed plan in which UPND Alliance will predominate was is an ill-conceived scheme only created to agitate for regime change ahead of the August 12, General election.  He said the alliance among opposition political parties was driven by selfish interests of sharing government positions if given a chance to get into power.

Mr Mulemwa said the core objective of the opposition parties was not to serve the interests of the Zambians and improve their welfare but to push for their selfish desires.

Mr. Mulemwa said the best alliance is the one that President Edgar Lungu has forged with the Zambian people in his quest to improve their welfare.

“Whilst it’s a democratic right for Zambians to belong to any political party or form an alliance with other political parties, the recently formed political alliance, like many others, previously formed, is driven by selfish interests of the desire to share government positions,” he said.

He urged Zambians to rally behind President Lungu as he navigates the country out of the economic challenges that have been triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. Some Bemba-aligned political parties have come together in a pact under the umbrella name “The Zambia We Want Movement” and will field one presidential candidate in the August 12 general elections.

Lusaka lawyer Ernest Mwansa announced on Thursday that the pact has Zambia Must Prosper Movement, headed by another lawyer, Kelvin Bwalya Fube, Felix Mutati’s MDC, and Zambians for Empowerment and Development and the Movement for Change and Equality.

Mr Mwansa said they have come together to serve a common interest and also lessen the overcrowded political space during the general ELECTION.
