108 ILLEGAL ALIENS DEPORTED

THE Department of Immigration deported 108 Prohibited Immigrants (PIs) from Zambia between May 28 and June 2, 2021, as it secured 44 convictions for unlawful stay in the country.

On the removing of PIs, the department’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Namati Nshinka said among them were 22 Congolese removed on June 1, 2021 by Immigration Officers at Kasumbalesa Border Control after entering the country illegally.

“Also removed were 21 Zimbabweans by the Kafue Immigration Office, 16 of whom had completed serving prison terms. The Kitwe Immigration Office also removed 17 Tanzanians from the country, eleven of whom also completed serving prison terms,” Mr Nshinka said in a statement yesterday.

He also said the Kitwe Immigration Office has secured the conviction of a 27-year-old Indian national holder of passport No.M4183058 for unlawful stay contrary to section 11(3) as read with section 56(1) of the Immigration and Deportation Act No.18 of 2010.

He said Imran was apprehended on May 20, 2021 in Kitwe’s Chimwemwe Township during a routine operation after it was established that he had overstayed in the country.

He indicated that this brings the number of convictions secured by the Department of Immigration between May 28 and June 2, 2021 to 44.

He said the Kapiri Mposhi Immigration Office has also apprehended eight Ethiopians for unlawful entry and stay.
