Chief Chikwanda dies

CHIEF Chikwanda of the Bemba in Mpika has died.

The traditional leader had tested positive for Covid-19 and was in self-isolation in Lusaka where he died on Sunday around 23:18 hours.

Last week, Chief Luchembe of Kanchibiya also died from Covid-19.

Bemba Royal Establishment spokesperson James Wanshanga Impika Shalubemba confirmed the death of Chief Chikwanda.

He said Chief Chikwanda, whose names are, Henry Bwalya, died at a home in Lusaka where he was in self-isolation for some days. Chief Chikwanda who was an engineer by profession owned a Lusaka-based construction company and ascended to the throne in 2014.

The Bemba Royal Establishment indicated that the burial of the chief will be announced in due course and described him as a selfless traditional leader who had love and care for his subjects.

Chief Chikwanda is the sixth chief in Muchinga Province to have died within a space of six months
