KAMBWILI LIBEL DEFENCE DRAGS

By CHARLES MUSONDA

FORMER National Democratic Congress (NDC) president Chishimba Kambwili’s case of defaming President Edgar Lungu was yesterday adjourned because the State was not ready to proceed with the matter.

In this case, High Court Judge Lameck Mwale, who sits as Chief Resident Magistrate in the matter, has put Kambwili on his defence for allegedly referring to President Lungu as a dog from Chawama.

He is accused of uttering the defamatory words between August 26 and 27, 2019 with intent to bring Mr Lungu’s name into hatred, ridicule or contempt by word of mouth.

Yesterday, public prosecutor Pepulani Mbewe told Mr Justice Mwale that the prosecution was not ready because prosecutor Charity Bauleni had an in-house issue to resolve.

The case comes on June 6, 2021.
