NO SECRET VOTER’S REGISTER, EVEN HH HAS A COPY – ECZ

By PETER SICHALI

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has dismissed reports of the existence of any secret voters’ register and explained that all presidential candidates were availed or collected a copy.

ECZ Public Affairs Manager, Patricia Luhanga, said that the ECZ had announced that it would distribute the voters’ register to all political party presidents and that the UPND president, Mr Hakainde Hichilema had collected his copy just as President Edgar Lungu got his also.

Ms Luhanga said it was not strange that there was a register at State House because that is where President Edgar Lungu resides.

“Every presidential candidate is entitled to a national voters’ register and therefore the PF Presidential candidate is not exceptional, there is nothing secret about the register,” she said.

Ms Luhanga said like other candidates, the UPND presidential candidate has equally collected the national voters’ register.

“As far as ECZ is concerned we only have one register that has been issued to presidential candidates, which can equally be accessed by the public at a fee,” Ms Luhanga said.

UPND International Relations chairperson Rose Sakala had issued a statement challenging the ECZ to come out clean on allegations of a secret voter’s register.

Ms Sakala claimed that the UPND had information that there was a secret voters’ register at State House.
