THE counsel by Catholic Bishops that Zambians should not be cheated in the forthcoming elections should be taken seriously because the opposition are up to no good, Evangelical Youth Alliance executive director, Reverend Moses Lungu has said.

Rev Lungu  has accused the opposition of having been hugely sponsored by outside forces to force regime  change through propaganda and  anarchy  .

In an interview, Rev. Lungu said incidences of violence leading to destruction of property in Zambia towards election was a well-orchestrated scheme by the known opposition political party to portray the country as ungovernable.

“First of all, I would like to urge my fellow Zambians to take Catholic Bishops Counsel seriously that the acts of violence witnessed during this campaign period are intended to intimidate the citizenry to belong to a party or choose leaders out of fear.  In fact, this known opposition political party is well sponsored by those who want to see PF out of power so that they once again start looting the country,” Rev. Lungu said.

He added, “For example, the political violence that has consistently happened  in Mandevu Constituency where cars and houses of innocent people were damaged should not be taken lightly by both the police and citizens because  worse scenarios are likely to happen. This opposition political party which I will not mention for now is well funded to cause anarchy in the country just to paint government black.”

He advised Zambians to be alert and ensure that opposition machinations were not successful by rejecting them.

Yesterday, Catholic bishops expressed shock at incidences of violence leading to destruction of property and abductions of individuals as the country heads for elections.

In a statement after a meeting, the bishops noted that, “of late, incidences of violence have become common such as destruction of property, abductions, tribal tone and worse still the shedding of blood.”

The bishops noted that these acts of violence were intended to intimidate the citizenry to belong to a party or choose leaders out of fear.

The bishops have however advised voters in this year’s elections not to be cheated but to choose leaders who are selfless, God-fearing, and with the interest of the people and the country at heart.
