GOVERNMENT has set Monday August 16 as the day of opening schools after  a devastating covid19  third wave hit the country

Ministry of Information permanent secretary Amos Malupenga during the daily Covid-19 update said schools would reopen on August 16 after inspections from relevant authorities.

Mr Malupenga said that General Certificate Examinations (GCE) would commence their exams on Monday July 19.

“Pupils writing their GCE exams will start their exams on Monday July 19 but I must say that we are not going to be complacent but will ensure that we follow Covid-19 guidelines,” Mr Malupenga said.

He however said the results would be conducted with maximum Covid-19 regulations to reduce the spread of the virus.

Mr Malupenga however said that University and Colleges countrywide would continue conducting online classes to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

He said Bars and Restaurants would continue working on take away basis for 21 days subject to review while Gyms would remain closed.

Mr Malupenga also said that Weddings, Chilanga Mulilo’s and other physical Conferences which were super spreaders would also not be allowed for 21 days.

He said churches would only be allowed to have two meetings per week which would last for only an hour to reduce the spread of the virus.

Mr Malupenga said Funerals would only accommodate 50 individuals unlike the trend in the past which saw larger crowds.

And speaking at the same event ministry of health permanent secretary Kennedy Malama said that people needed to be brothers keepers in the fight against Covid-19.

“I just want to urge my fellow citizens to take this fight seriously as you are aware Covid-19 is real and as a country we need to work together to score positive results,” he said.
