DELIVER FOOD TO BOARDING SCHOOLS, DMMU TOLD
By ADRIAN MWANZA
THE Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) must expedite the delivery of food to boarding schools, says the National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ).
NAQEZ executive director Aaron Chansa said that the DMMU had not delivered what was promised to boarding schools when schools reopened.
Mr Chansa said schools did not know what was going on since they had not received any aid as promised by the permanent secretary in the office of the Vice President, Dr Stephen Mwansa “We are still waiting for the aid which was promised to all government boarding schools by the DMMU who said they would give them something,” Mr Chansa said.
Meanwhile, Mr Chansa said he was happy with the smooth transition of power from PF to UPND because most parents were anticipating chaos after the announcing of the August 12 election results. He said that the move by the out-going President Edgar Lungu and President-elect Hakainde Hichilema to dialogue meant that the school calendar would not be affected.
“Kudos must be given to the two leaders whose dialogue helped the country forge ahead in a peaceful manner without any qualms,” he said. Mr Chansa said that the environment was now safe and pupils were free to return to school without looking over their shoulders concerning the issue of security.
He said that teachers must hit the ground running and ensure that they utilise the time remaining before the calendar came to a close.
