THERE is overwhelming demand that Patriotic Front secretary general, Davies Mwila resigns because he is considered responsible for the party’s failure to win the just ended election.
A PF member of the Presidential campaign team on the Copperbelt, Munalula Moola heaped the blame for the loss on party leaders failing to listen to masses. “ If there was a single reason that one would use or coin to explain why our party PF s fortunes started to go down is that we stopped listening to the masses, “ Mr Moola said.
He accused leaders of misrepresentation of facts to the President. Mr Moola said the secretary general should be dropped along with other national leaders. And leader of a PF youth group calling itself “True Greens”, Moses Silungwe said in an interview that there was a revolt among the youth because it was time for the party CEO to exit. “We’re asking SG to resign on moral grounds.
He should not wait for the President to fire. The main reason is that he is the CEO of the party and whatever we have gone through, is pointing at him. As true greens and youths we want the party to rebrand and bounce back because people love the party. But it will not happen if Mr Mwila remains as SG,” Mr Silungwe said.
According to messages from PF blogs and those spoken to, Mr Mwila must be removed from his position because he was to blame for the party’s loss of the presidential election. Mr Mwila has also been blamed for the loss of seats in the former ruling party’s strongholds on account that he pushed the agenda of adopting candidates who were not popular at the grassroots.
However, Mufulira Central former aspiring candidate Kelvin Mwilu has said PF members should exercise patience and give President Lungu some time to recover and think through the election loss instead of ditching the party en masse. He said aggrieved members should first petition President Lungu against Mr Mwila if they feel he was to blame for the election loss instead of ditching the party.
Mr Mwilu said each province should come up with a paper where people could put their names and signatures in support of the firing of Mr Mwila which should be sent to the president. “But if we can’t petition we better keep silent. Leaving the party because of SG’s presence is not right,” he said in a statement.
