Don’t cry foul on Speaker and Deputies, PF told
WE don’t sympathise with the PF at all over their cries on the appointments of the Speaker and first and second deputy speakers at parliament, they are being given a taste of their own medicine so we welcome them to the opposition, says MMD.
The first session of the 13th National Assembly has elected Lusaka lawyer Nelly Butete Kashumba-Mutti as Speaker of the National Assembly to become
the country’s first female Speaker after going unopposed.
And former UPND Gwembe Member of Parliament Ms Malungo Attractor Chisangano has been elected First Deputy Speaker while Luangeni Independent Member of Parliament Mr Moses Moyo is Second Deputy Speaker after they both went unopposed.
But PF Mporokoso Member of Parliament, Brian Mundubile described the appointment process as undemocratic because other political parties were not given a chance to elect, not even one of the presiding officers in parliament.
Mr. Mundubile accused the UPND administration of being bent on destroying the democracy by breaking what he described as the long-time settled practice of choosing presiding officers.
However, MMD national secretary, Reverend Reuben Sambo said the PF should not cry wolf because they are reaping what they sow when they first broke tradition by preventing the UPND as the second-largest political party in the house to choose the Deputy Speaker.
