Hillcrest Technical School gets mattresses

By ANDREW MUKOMA

STUDENTS at Hillcrest National Technical Secondary School in Livingstone were all smiles on Saturday when they received 80 mattresses worth K55,000 from the former students.

The donation was presented by Hillcrest Alumni Zambia representative, Dennis Band, who said the gesture was one way of complementing government efforts towards improving the learning and teaching environment at the school.

Mr Banda said that the alumni would continue supporting school management in creating a conducive learning environment for pupils.

He said that the group which comprises mainly older members, up to the early 1990s, would also promote the welfare of pupils.

Mr Banda said that the intelligent but vulnerable pupils at the school would be assisted so that they too could complete their education with ease.

He said the group also intends to rehabilitate some infrastructure as well as improving water reticulation at its former school.

“Our love for this school has motivated us to contribute desks last year and now we are donating mattresses as most of them are outdated,” said.

Mr Banda advised students to take care of the donated mattresses.

Receiving the mattresses, head teacher Rose Miyombo, said the school was grateful for the assistance from former pupils.

Ms Miyombo said the teaching staff would always ensure that the school continues to record a 100 percent pass rate at all times.

A representative of the pupils, Joshua Seti, said the donation would play a significant role in the provision of essential boarding facilities at the school.
