By CHARLES MUSONDA

THE Chishinga Royal Establishment (CRE) says this year’s Malaila traditional ceremony, which takes place on September 18, will be used to expose Luapula province’s potential to prospective investors because of the region’s vast natural resources.

In an interview, CRE chairperson Musonda Mushota said the ceremony will target investors interested in investing in the mining and tourism sectors as the districts in which the Chishinga people are found are endowed with cobalt, copper, manganese, wildlife, and various waterfalls.

Mr. Mushota said although Covid-19 cases in Zambia have continued have to drop; the ceremony, which has not taken place for the past two years, will be held under Covid-19 prevention guidelines set by the Ministry of Health.
He appealed to well-wishers, partners, and supporters especially those who support the Malaila ceremony to come on board and help the way they had been doing in the past.

“We are also inviting public officials, private companies, organisations and institutions, and even citizens. Everyone is free to come and celebrate with us, we are not segregating anyone to come and attend.

“We also expect the new government to continue helping and empowering our people. We expect government officials to be there so that we can share with them the programmes that we have put in place,” Mr. Mushota said.
He assured President Hakainde Hichilema that the CRE, under Senior Chief Mushota of Kawambwa district, is ready to work with him and his government to foster development.

He said the Establishment was against politics of name calling but expected people to provide checks and balances to the new government in an objective and respectful manner.
Mr. Mushota appealed to all Zambians to work with the UPND government in the promotion and maintenance of peace and unity in the nation.

He said traditional ceremonies are unique events as they bring people together as traditional leaders teach people, especially young ones, love and culture so that they are nurtured into responsible adults.
