UPND will respect technocrats’

THE UPND in Southern Province has emphasized the need for party members to respect technocrats who are employed in government.

Southern Province UPND spokesperson, Neto Halwabala, said without doing so, the new dawn government would fail.

He was speaking in Kazungula when he received defectors from Patriotic Front (PF) on Monday in the company of Katombora Member of Parliament (MP) Clement Andeleki and Provincial Youth Information and Publicity Secretary Muyunda Mukelabai.

Mr Halwabala said political members and cadres must stay clear from Government operations and respect technocrats.

He said members should also ensure they protect the image of the ruling party by sticking to their lane.

Defectors included former Livingstone City Mayor, Joram Mwinda, who stood as PF Kazungula District Council Chairperson but lost, former Livingstone District Commissioner in the MMD government, Francis Chika, former PF District Chairlady Gertrude Pomboloka, losing PF Simonga ward candidate, Given Sikute and Purity Pomboloka.

They defected to the ruling UPND, citing greed and arrogance in his former party.

Mr Mwinda pledged to help the UPND retain power, ahead of the 2026 General Election.

Mr Andeleki said he will be available to serve his constituents from the grassroots, further urging the people in the area to safeguard against the covid-19 pandemic.

The Katombora MP cautioned party members not to go to sleep but continue mobilizing the party for it to remain relevant to the people and to President Hakainde Hichilema.
