UPND cadres are embarrassing President Hakainde Hichilema by defying his directive of not engaging in hooliganism, says former Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili.
Mr Kambwili was reacting to a video circulating on social media showing UPND cadres vandalising a police station in Luanshya.
And leading to the Kaumbwe elections, the UPND cadres attacked and smashed PF vice president, Given Lubinda’s vehicle as well as battering Socialist Party members at the camp. Four SP members were let injured and their vehicle damaged.
This is after video went viral of UPND cadres threatening to kill Mr Lubinda, a case over which the opposition party wrote the Inspector General of police.
The cadres defaced the building by removing the name The Nathan Chanda Police Post, by painting over it in full view of the police who stood helpless and outnumbered.
The Police Post was commissioned by former Luanshya Mayor and losing PF Roan MP Nathan Chanda prior to the August 12 general elections.
Mr Kambwili said that was total anarchy and unacceptable for cadres to dare the police officers by removing names at the police station because it was vandalism and a punishable offence by law.
He said they were embarrassing the head of State since he was portraying a picture that he did not condone cadrerism bordering on lawlessness.
Mr Kambwili said that the cadres were untouchable because they even had the audacity to undertake such unthinkable acts at a police station which was unheard of in the past.
He said that the police were scared of the cadres and that is why they could not take any action against them.
“Where on earth can a cadre go and vandalise a police station by painting graffiti on the walls without them being arrested. It painted a very wrong picture, that the police were actually scared of cadres,” he said.
Mr Kambwili said it was a direct sign of insubordination to the President who had made it clear that he did not condone unruly cadres in the country.
He said if the cadres felt aggrieved there were many avenues that could be followed to find a lasting solution rather than taking matters in their own hands.
Mr Kambwili said that it was up to President Hichilema to take action because this was a direct challenge to what he declared.
“They could have engaged the local authorities who I’m sure were part and parcel in the naming process of the Police Post rather than what they did, removing the name of the Post without any permission. That is anarchy and should be condemned with the contempt it deserves,” Mr Kambwili said.
Mr Kambwili said it was a shame because the cadres were demeaning the President and it was up to him to take the necessary action needed to discipline the growing cancer which was slowly growing and would become full blown if left unchecked.
