CADRES ROUGH UP COUNCIL POLICE OFFICER
By ROGERS KALERO SUSPECTED
UPND cadres on Tuesday afternoon roughed up a Kitwe City Council police officer for wearing a Patriotic Front (PF) T-shirt inside his uniform as a vest. The unruly cadres roughed up the officer within the Civic Centre premises accusing him of being among those trying to damage the name of President Hakainde Hichilema.
When contacted for a comment, Kitwe Town Clerk Mbulo Seke said he was told that the incident happened on Tuesday when some bus drivers were being sensitised about the formation of management boards for markets and bus stations boards. ” I’m told this happened yesterday at the Civic Centre when some bus srivers who were being sensitised about the formation of management boards for markets and bus stations boards went to present their opposition to the establishment of management boards,” Mr Seke said.
But the incident which has since gone viral has received criticism from those who witnessed the actual incident and those who have watched it on social media. Some residents who witnessed it, like Ms Memory Chisala said the conduct of the UPND cadres was unacceptable.
Ms Chisala said it was sad and disappointing that the UPND which promised that it will not entertain lawlessness, was now allowing its cadres to beat up people everywhere including at court premises. She warned that failure by the UPND to tame its cadres, the peace which Zambia has continued to enjoy will be lost because even those being perceived to be weak, they might reorganise themselves and fight back.
