GOVERENMENT should address the issue of the teacher -pupil ratio by employing more teachers if quality education is to be delivered across the country, Zambian Union of teachers (ZNUT) general secretary Newman Bubala has advised.
Mr Bubala said teachers face many challenges including lack of decent accommodation.
Mr Bubala however stated that government should put the interests of the teachers as priority to motivate the educators.
He said government should consider recruiting more teachers as well as constructing more schools across the country both in rural and urban areas.
Mr Bubala said, due to lack of adequate infrastructure, some children who have been affected, opt to drop out of school.
Mr Bubala noted that some teachers also worked long hours and that affects their teaching .
However, Mr Bubala has challenged teachers in the country to create high standards in the education sector.
He observed that teachers are an important component because they are stakeholders in improving service delivery in the education sector.
