GOVT WARNS ACC – ACT PROFESSIONALLY , SAYS JUSTICE MINISTER

By ADRIAN MWANZA
GOVERNMENT has warned the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to be very professional so as not to compromise the integrity of the institution.
Justice Minister Mulambo Haimbe said the ACC needed to be above board when dealing with sensitive matters of corruption.

He was reacting to an audio that has gone viral on social media which has exposed former ACC Director General Rosemary Khuzwayo , instructing officers to prosecute then Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya even without sufficient evidence.

“I have not personally heard the recording but I’m just calling on the ACC to be very professional so that people can hold them in high esteem,” he said.

Mr Haimbe said that the new dawn government had indicated that it would not have a hand in the operations of investigative wings but that the onus was on them to prove that they were up to the task.

He said that President Hakainde Hichilema had given the institution autonomy to operate freely without looking over their shoulders.
‘We have indicated that there will be no political interventions from the new dawn government, therefore people should just do their jobs professionally to avoid negative assertions about the Commission,” Mr Haimbe said.

Meanwhile, a legal expert, Mr Isaac Mwanza in an interview said there was need to investigate the former Director General for her actions.
He said the move was not in order and that action needed to be taken against the people that were involved in prosecuting Dr Chilufya.
Mr Mwanza said that such actions put doubt in people most especially that now it was under the auspices of the President.

“That is why it should not be under the President’s office because people will perceive it as being controlled by the head of State,” he said.
