MILES Sampa is the right man to take up the leadership of the Patriotic Front because he has shown maturity from the time he returned to the party, PF founder member John Mulenga has said.
Mr. Mulenga said Mr. Sampa was capable of leading PF because the fruits of his leadership manifested when he was the mayor of Lusaka.
He said it was only the people who were under his leadership when he served as Lusaka mayor that managed to secure seats for the party in parliament for Lusaka Province in the last general election.
Mr. Mulenga said Mandevu, Chawama and Matero were the only seats the PF won in Lusaka which all came from the council under his leadership.
“How can someone doubt the leadership qualities of such a person,” he said.
He said that even when Mr. Sampa left the party he never insulted any of its members and when he came back he was given a punishment which he served without making any noise which shows maturity in him.
Meanwhile Mr. Mulenga said the party needed to restructure completely starting from the grass root level for it to rebrand properly.
He said rebranding was not just about changing the top leadership but all the structures need to undergo changes.
Mr. Mulenga said this was the best time to rebuild because the party has remained with true members.
“Those that came to eat have left,” he said.
He said there is a need to change all the members of the central committee and put people who have a vision for the party.
He said they need to give the UPND a chance to work so that they can concentrate on rebuilding the party and come back strong in 2026.
