ZESCO SEEKS SPARK

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

AFTER suffering a 1-0 defeat to rivals Nkana over the weekend, MTN/FAZ Super League defending champions Zesco United will seek redemption when they whost Kansanshi Dynamos today at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Zesco United will fight for maximum points to move into the top four bracket consisting of leaders Green Buffaloes, Nkwazi, Buildcon and Kafue Celtics.

Today’s fixture will be Zesco’s fourth in two weeks having beaten Kabwe Warriors last Wednesday before the loss to Nkana in Kitwe.

Zesco coach Mumamba Numba believes he has a big squad which can withstand a congested line of fixtures.

“We have a big squad which can withstand a congested line of fixtures. That won’t be our excuse for failing to win against Nkana. The element of fatigue doesn’t come in. We weren’t just clinical on target,” Numba said after the loss at Nkana. After creating a lot of chances which were not utilised in the game against Nkana, Numba will hope that his charges will be clinical enough to deliver victory against Kansanshi Dynamos.

Numba is expected to make a few changes to his first 11 with midfielder Tafadwa Rusike, striker Enock Sakala and John Chingndu expected to return in the starting line up having started from the bench at Nkana Stadium.

The Zesco United gaffer will expect his charges to show character as they face Kansanshi in today’s fixture being used as a preparatory match for the clash of the titans with Green Buffaloes on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Kansanshi will be will be seeking to bounce back from Saturday’s shocking 1-0 defeat to Kafue Celtics.

Kansanshi are 11th on the league table with seven points and a win over Zesco United will propel them to sixth with 10 points.
