Kansanshi move into fifth

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

SOLWEZI-BASED Super League outfit Kansanshi Dynamos have moved into fifth on the Super League table after beating Konkola Blades 1-0 in yesterday’s Week-10 fixture at Independence Stadium in Solwezi.

An own goal from defender Stanley Kabala was all Kansanshi Dynamos needed to pick their fourth win of the season which propelled them to 14 points, on par with third and fourth-placed Zesco United and Buildcon who are also on 14 points.

Kabala directed Mathews Maleka’s shot into his own net to gift Kansanshi Dynamos the win.

The Solwezi outfit had dominated play with Zikiru Adams’ missing a penalty which was saved by Konkola Blades goalkeeper Willard Mwanza in the first half.

Meanwhile, after humiliating Power Dynamos and Lusaka Dynamos in the last two games of the MTN/FAZ Super League, second-placed Nkwazi FC will today seek to maintain their winning streak when they host wounded Kafue Celtics at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka.

Nkwazi will fight for three points in the Week-10 fixture as they try to catch up with league leaders Green Buffaloes who are three points ahead of the Zambia Police-sponsored outfit.

For Nkwazi assistant coach Keegan Phiri, the clash with Celtics is expected to be a tough encounter because of Celtics impressive run since they won promotion to the Super League.

Kafue Celtics are aiming to bounce back from the 1-0 defeat to Nkana FC in the previous fixture and a win over Nkwazi today may propel them back into the top four on the log.

Phiri however believes Nkwazi are in a better position to bag three points considering the experience they have as a team and the motivational 1-0 win over Power Dynamos in their last game at Edwin Imboela Stadium.

Defending champions Zesco United will seek to bounce back to winning ways when they host struggling Green Eagles at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

At Sunset Stadium in Lusaka, Zanaco and Lusaka Dynamos will renew their rivalry tomorrow while Kabwe Warriors will host Buildcon at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium.

Other games scheduled for tomorrow include the battle of the titans involving Red Arrows and Power Dynamos at Nkoloma Stadium while Chambishi will host Forest Rangers with Indeni taking on Prison Leopards in the first game of the double header at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

Motivated by last weekend’s win over Celtics, Nkana FC will fight to end Buffaloes’ unbeaten run when the two giants lock horns in the second match at Nkana Stadium.
