THERE is a huge army of unemployed graduates in different categories of the economy all looking to be employed instead of the 30,000 teachers and 11, 300 health workers announced by government, former minister George Mpombo has said.
Dr Mpombo has advised government to look into the plight of all categories of graduates looking for employment instead of focusing on only two sectors.
“ The proper move is to absorb them all in government, unlike leaving others languishing in doldrums,” Dr Mpombo has said.
Dr Mpombo said President Hakainde Hichilema shouldn’t only pay attention to teachers and medics but to all unemployed graduates in other fields because they all voted for him.
He said all graduates in the streets needed to be considered into general employment because if only teachers and doctors were employed where would the others go?
“All graduates in the streets should be absorbed into formal employment because if they only employ doctors and teachers then this is what we call filtering around with the problem and not solving it,’’ he said.
He said it is the duty of the government to ensure that they provided employment to the graduates and it’s not necessary to departmentalize them and let others roam the streets.
The Government, he said, should ensure that graduates were given employment by involving every sector like engineering, business and so forth.
He therefore urged President Hakainde Hichilema not to be segregative by employing only two sectors but also considering other graduates from other fields because they too deserved to be employed.
‘’Let him consider other fields too, because this will cause congestion with graduates as they too voted for him,’’ Mr Mpombo said.
